Individual Awakening – how do we move from identification with unhealthy ego to the liberated joy of the Authentic Self?
From Minus One to Zero to Plus One
How do we move from the prison of unhealthy or negative ego – minus one – to the ecstatic, evolutionarily-inspired liberation of the Authentic Self? It’s usually not possible to make the transition in a single step.
At the beginning we always have to learn how to return to zero.
In this context, zero means no relationship whatsoever. It represents the leap from something to nothing, from the manifest to the unmanifest, from individual and collective ego to the ground of being.
At zero, we take no relationship to life, mind, and time. We discover the infinite freedom of enlightenment as pure being. Learning how to return to zero is not just a skill to be used once and forgotten. It is an eternal refuge from the mind, from time, from incarnation. It is something we can return to again and again – a source of infinite renewal.
In this talk, Andrew describes the journey towards enlightened awareness as a consciously chosen transition from minus one to zero to plus one, where “plus one” is a relationship to life in which the fundamental locus of attention has shifted away from identification with unhealthy ego.
The goal is to create the conditions in which the Evolutionary Impulse, or Authentic Self, can shine through a healthy ego structure.
